Govardhan puja or Gowardhan puja is another most famous and more awaiting festival by all Hindus around the world after Diwali celebration. Most of the time Govardhan Puja day falls subsequently day after Diwali Puja. Occasionally there might be one day breach between Diwali and Govardhan Puja.

On Goverdhan celebration day food made of cereal like wheat, rice, curry made of gram flour and leafy vegetables is cooked and offered to Lord Krishna.

It is trust that due to advantage given by Lord Vamana, Asura King Bali visits the Prithvi Lok from the Patala Lok on this day.

Mostly Govardhan Puja day coincides with Gujarati New Year day. Mainly Gujarati New Year is famous on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Kartik month. Depending on opening time of Pratipada Tithi, Govardhan Puja celebrations possibly will be done one day before Gujarati New Year day.
